The Science behind Purify Mist

The Science behind Purify Mist

The Science behind Purify Mist

Working closely with the FDA, our lab developed the formula for Purify Mist as a maximum strength solution to help combat COVID-19 on contact.

Here's the formal CDC guideline:

"CDC recommends the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers with greater than 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol as the preferred form of hand hygiene in healthcare settings, based upon greater access to hand sanitizer. Health care providers who use alcohol-based hand sanitizers as part of their hand hygiene routine can inform patients that they are following CDC guidelines."

Botana RX's Purify Mist contains 80% ethanol alcohol. We also added therapeutic grade organic rosemary essential oil, tea tree oil, and colloidal silver to help defend and protect the mind, body, and soul.

So you see, we took CDC's recommendations up a notch and formulated something closer to WHO's hand-rub recommendations instead. Here is the document for full transparency. Feel free to refer to FORMULATION 1 / FINAL PRODUCTS (page 4) to cross-reference between our formulas.

Purify Mist is an antiseptic DRUG product for topical use and not a cosmetic or beauty product. While we strongly believe in the power of plant essences, the FDA requires that we list all the essential oil and aromatherapeutic ingredients as inactive ingredients, since aromatherapeutic claims have not been tested by the FDA. [More on aromatherapy and the FDA here.]

According to the FDA: "If a product is intended for therapeutic use, such as treating or preventing disease, or to affect the structure or function of the body, it’s a drug. For example, claims that a product will relieve colic, ease pain, relax muscles, treat depression or anxiety, or help you sleep are drug claims.

Such claims are sometimes made for products such as soaps, lotions, and massage oils containing “essential oils” and marketed as “aromatherapy.” The fact that a fragrance material or other ingredient comes from a plant doesn’t keep it from being regulated as a drug.

Under the law, drugs must meet requirements such as FDA approval for safety and effectiveness before they go on the market."

We have done this and here is our permit info for Purify Mist:

  • FDA-Registered Facility 16875199568
  • Alcohol Permit SDS NY-3854

If your hand sanitizer does not have this information, it's probably not an effective, safe, or approved drug product. A cosmetic or beauty product is not designed for efficacy. So please, ask questions before you put your health on the line during a pandemic.

Proud to Serve:
